For most players, when we first start playing darts it is a struggle to
hit the number we are shooting at, let alone finish a game. So we work
on 'how to throw darts'. You know we try to find;

Then we have to learn 'how to score darts' ... you know; add, multiple
and substract ... so that we can figure out what we have left.

And if that's not bad enough then we have to figure out what we must do

But in time most players manage to handle most numbers and figure out
what double (or combination of numbers leading to a double) they need
to finish.

The problem is most players don't know the right combinations. They
don't know what it means to be a 'percentage shooter'. Instead they
attempt shots or combinations that cost them the game.

Top dart players know all numbers and combinations are not created
equal.
1. They know that certain shots, let's call them, 'winning
combinations' give them the best chance of winning.
2. In a nutshell they increase their chances of winning.
3. They know if they make the wrong choice they increase their chance
of losing.
4. They know if they make the right choice they increase their chance
of winning.
5. They know the advantage goes to the players who know what they are
doing.
6. They know the 'importance of being a percentage shooter'.

When I first starting playing darts I was impressed with the accuracy
of players. It wasn't long before I realized you need to know what to
shoot if you want to play better darts and win more often.

I wanted to know how the best players shoot. So in 1980, with notebook
in hand, I traveled to Las Vegas to the North American Open to find
out:
* what they shoot
* why they shoot certain combinations, and
* when they shoot them.

Many top players in the world were there including Eric Bristow.

But I didn't stop there ...

I returned home determined to continue my study of the best players.
Shortly thereafter, I became part of my Provincial and National darts
organizations.

We organized the best in the country and, at times, the best dart
players in the world. These included;
* National Championships with the top players in Canada including
world ranked Bob Sinnaeve.
* Canadian Opens which drew many of the world top players such as
Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Bob Anderson, Bob Sinnaeve and Phil
Taylor.
* World Cup VII which brought the world's best dart players.

I became the Vice-President, and then President of the NDFC (National
Darts Federation of Darts).

This gave me more opportunity to study the best players in the world. I
represented Canada at the:
* World Darts Federation (WDF) - World Cups IV, V, VI and VII
* British Darts Organization (BDO) - World Championships; the Winmau
World Masters and Embassy World Professionals and the British Open
* American Darts Organization (ADO) - USA versus Canada Challenge Cup

I don't say these things to brag. I simply want you to know that I
didn't pull these 'winning combinations' out of thin air. It took time
and a lot of study while working with the best dart players.

Finally, I got a chance to put these 'winning combinations'

to the 'real' test.

I became the television 'darts spotter' for the CBC (Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation) and TSN (Television Sports Network). CBC
televised our National Championships, Canadian Opens and World Cup VII
and TSN covered the Number 7 Canadian Darts Classsics.

To do this job I had to have a 'complete knowledge' of the game. I had
to know what the players could shoot - what options they had and I had
to 'spot' these in a matter of split seconds and relay these to the
cameraman.

I was able to put my knowledge of these 'Winning Strategies' to work
